This is so cool and I wish I could see it in person! Such a bummer it isn't being publicized as much as it should be. As someone who is a creative but has also had to work so many service jobs, that first self portrait hit so close to home.
Imagine if more companies held an annual, staff exhibition of art/craft work. Wouldn’t that make the world a nicer place to be?
More public gallery space and exhibitions from Jo Public. More opportunities for people to create together or learn about it or share it. I was lamenting the lack of evening classes these days where you could do so many things for a reasonable price . But they’ve disappeared now. Any class (usually a day admittedly) costs about £80 now 😳
A curator at MoMA tells me many of the NYC museums, at least, do in fact mount shows like this once a year. But it would be a nicer world if everywhere did it, museums or not. But it doesn't seem like we're headed nicer-worldward these days.
YES I was also thinking about that book, All The Beauty in the World. He talked about the group show in it, too. One of the nicest books I've read in a long time:
I find the same thing with music. I host showcases and am invariably rewarded by the breadth and diversity of musicians and songwriters that most people will never hear. Looks like a wonderful show. Sorry I'm not in New York.
Kudos to the artists ; what an impressive array of talent. And special thanks to the MET for giving the opportunity, would that other institutions offer that opportunity for so many visual voices to be seen and heard. Thanks for putting this on our radar. A painter and art teacher from Maine.
Its such a refreshing, kinda grass roots way for art to be seen and honored at the same time. Not sure the museums up here would go for it but love the concept.
This is magnificent! Thanks for bringing people like me (who won't get to see this Met exhibit) along on your walk through these galleries. So much talent and creativity surfaced through this exhibit.
So deeply important. Thank you, Tim, for the questions you raise in your writing (why is this not widely publicized? How many of us fail to think about ‘the guard’ as real person, let alone artist?). Thank you for your deep humanism. It comes through in all of your work. It improves me and my life.
Thanks for sharing such cool art show!

Ahh! Such a cool show! Shame on them for not publicizing it more. I wish I could see it! Thanks for sharing the photos! So many evocative pieces!

This reminded me that a ton of people recommended Patrick Bringley‘s ALL THE BEAUTY IN THE WORLD to me: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/mar/05/patrick-bingley-all-beauty-world-museum-guard-moma-interview

A friend of mine who's a curator at MoMA tells me that most museums in the city have similar shows.

Definitely going to check this out this weekend. What a find!

This is great! The crucifixion from above, coupled with Action Clam wins all.
I knew Jeff Elliott, of "Bather's Triptych", taught him at SVA!
Action Clam!
So much to love in that exhibit. I'm not going to make it to NYC in time, so thanks for the photos.

I want to live in a world where all artists get such an opportunity to showcase their passions. This is incredible!
Wow!
