This is my own recording of a short story, “They Ate the Children First,” written by Madeline Cash. Madeline is the first of my former students to have published a book, and I am achingly proud of her.

Comfortably sitting. Listening intently while gazing out window. The morning is clear and unseasonably crisp for California. Birds flit. Squirrels rummage. The freeway hums.
